WHAT DO WE DO?

The Hogar Albergue de Niños de San Germán, Inc. – Portal de Amor is a non-profit institution dedicated to sheltering, caring for, protecting and attending to the essential needs of children who have been victims of abuse or neglect. 

The beginning of Portal de Amor was in January 1990, when some friends heard about the lack of shelters for child victims of abuse in Puerto Rico. They took the message to their husbands and friend’s and on April 3, 1990, the home was founded. After 4 years of challenges, in June 1994, Portal de Amor opens its doors and offers shelter to the first child, our service have continued uninterrupted until today. 

The Home offers children from newborns to twelve years of age a better quality of life as well as professional social, and psychological help necessary for their emotional and physical rehabilitation. We are very proud to be one of the first homes in PR to be accredited by The Council on Accreditation (COA) as a qualified Residential Treatment Program specialized in Neurodevelopmental disorders. This guarantees that we meet high standards of excellence in our services and that we specialize in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. 

Portal de Amor is incorporated as a non-profit institution in the Department of State in Puerto Rico under number 20,192 and certified as a 501 (c)(3) organization, tax exempt by the federal International Revenue Division (IRS) .

We have received thousands of children from all over Puerto Rico in our Casita and with your help we will continue our mission!
